Little Elm was established in 1884 by Kit King alongside Little Elm Creek. Little Elm was a tiny community of under 200 until new roads provided better access between Dallas and Denton in the 1950s. By 2000, Little Elm had 127 businesses and nearly 3,600 people.
Some of the many communities in Little Elm include Wildridge, Arbor Creek, Paloma Creek, Lakewood Estates, and Frisco Hills.
Little Elm has 5 elementary schools (Brent, Chavez, Hackberry, Lakeview, and Oak Point), along with 1 middle school (Lakeside Middle School) and 1 high school (Little Elm High School).
