Settlers created Peters Colony in the 1840s, which grew in 1872 due to the Houston and Texas Central Railroads built through the community and created the layout that is Melissa today. By 1990 they had nine businesses and nearly 600 people.
Melissa is still a small community, but has several beautiful neighborhoods, including Berry Farms, Brookside, Country Ridge, Hunters Creek, Magnolia Ridge, Meadow Run, and Trails of Melissa.
Melissa has two elementary schools (Harry McKillop and North Creek), one middle school (Melissa Middle School), and one high school (Melissa High School).
Melissa is home to several parks and community centers, such as Melissa Sports Facility, City Hall Plaza Park, Zadow Park, and Bob Miller Park.RESOURCES: www.cityofmelissa.com www.melissaisd.org
